Susan
Egan's New CD
WINTER TRACKS
on LML Music
Winter
Tracks
will be released in stores and online nationwide October 10th.
Susan Egan’s latest CD, Winter
Tracks, takes a distinctive approach to the holiday album concept by
spanning the whole season: from Thanksgiving, to Hanukah and Christmas, to the
calm of the day after, to a New Year’s celebration, combining holiday classics
with fresh new seasonal music.
As with her 2004 award-winning CD, Coffee House, Egan has once again
teamed up with
long-time friend and producer, Christopher McGovern to create a signature album
of songs that reflects their passion for the season. Their goal was to
fashion a CD that both takes the listener on a chronological journey through the
holidays and also instills the sense of anticipation, joy, love and peace that
the season represents. Though a bit quieter than Egan’s usual Broadway
fare, Egan still stays true to her roots as she and McGovern blend traditional
Broadway story telling – with a light acoustic feel. They showcase
holiday classics reinterpreted as well as new surprises by some of New York’s
most prolific and award-winning modern writers: Alan Menken, Stephen Schwartz,
Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty, Georgia Stitt, Christopher McGovern himself, and
a tender tune by one of Broadway’s newest acting recruits, Cyndi Lauper.
“I really wanted to create an album that could both inspire festivity and also
instill tranquility during a season that can be decidedly hectic,” Egan
states. “ I have always loved the holidays, but I especially treasure
times spent preparing at home – wrapping gifts, cooking – with soothing
music to accompany me. I hope this recording can provide those kinds of moments
for people.” Reflecting on her performance career, Egan adds, “I also
spend each December singing holiday tunes in countless concerts, and I always
love discovering something new. I’ve been ‘collecting’ these hard-to-find
originals for a few years now, and couldn’t wait to bring them together here
on Winter Tracks, placing them alongside some of my favorite standards.
Hopefully folks will find some new tunes to hum this season and in years to
come!”
